Micro Four Thirds – UPDATE 1
After doing some research it is pretty obvious that Olympus is going to announce their first micro four thirds product very soon. Not long after posting yesterday I was auto-followed on twitter by @getolympus. (They must have a saved search for “micro four thirds” or “Olympus.”) I started looking through his tweets and the last few are specifically about micro four thirds. By using RT he was clearly trying to get around having to post links to the information himself as an Olympus employee. Anyway, here is what I found:
- Blendtec made this video as part of their famous Will It Blend series. An Olympus point and shoot with an Olympus DSLR? Hmmmm…..
- The New York Times did this piece questioning the significance of a recent Olympus homage to the Pen, a classic camera that debuted in 1959. The four videos are below:
- If you go to the page at Olympus that has these videos you will see this at the bottom. It used to say June 9 but now says June 16.

- The New York Times also linked to an article from Photokina that has photos of the concept design that was shown there.
- Gearlog had an article on the 5th speculating about a release.
- Wired had a leaked photo with comments on the 8th:
Hoping we hear something by June 16th. I’ve subscribed to @getolympus’ feed and will be creating some saved searches of my own. Check back here for updates. I’m not sure why I’m so excited about this. I could even see myself switching to this format exclusively. Would probably save us some money, too.
