UT Dome

Shot from our balcony, this image is a close crop of a wider shot I attempted. I just can’t seem to nail this subject (UT campus). I own a recently published photo book of Tampa by a local historian and photographer. Even he doesn’t have many wide photographs of the campus. It isn’t that I don’t like detail shots, it is simply that I want to capture what I see and feel when I look down at the entire campus. The human eye is an amazing imaging device. Frustratingly, cameras just aren’t there yet. Yes, I’m blaming it on the available tools and not my creative abilities. ; )

UDPATE: Forgot to mention that the background in the original did not have any lens blur and thus the subject was not nearly as isolated. After a few minutes in LR for crop, grayscale conversion, and clarity/sharpness/tone adjustments, I spent about an hour in PS on the blurry background. I came up with a great technique for dealing with the glow that appears around the subject when blending a sharp layer with a blurry layer. I’ll post more about it later.
