Tampa Museum of Art Grand Opening
We went to the Tampa Museum of Art grand opening this morning. They did a short ceremony with a few speakers and then the doors opened and people flooded in. (Quietly and politely, of course.) There were kids activities on the lawn. Mine decorated mini museums and made a replica of the sculpture hanging from the atrium ceiling. They even made Matisse style prints. The cafe was doing samples of their panini, desserts, and gelato. Delicious.
I bought a household membership to the museum as soon as the line dissipated. Because we had the kids there, I didn’t do a full-on museum visit, so I can’t wait until next week when I’ll be able to go on a weekday. Unfortunately, they are not allowing any photography of the artwork. (Even without flash!) I was surprised considering I’ve taken photographs more than once at MoMA and the Met in New York City. Hopefully they will change their policy when the crowds die down.

The people. (I also had my Olympus E-P1 around my neck for wide shots outside. It’s not bad as a second camera body.)

The museum is covered with 900,000 of these circular holes on metal sheets.
I believe this terrace is going to be an outdoor sculpture gallery. No pieces were on display today.

Gorgeous pictures! My favorite is the one you captured looking through the circles down into the atrium.

Thank you Julia. And thanks for tweeting the link. You have a lot of followers that retweeted. I don’t do this for money, but it is fun to get traffic on my personal journal.

I’m all about getting the word out about local awesomeness and you are certainly capturing it!
I’m going to be doing a redesign on http://www.brandtampa.com in the very near future. I’d love to chat about featuring some of your images on the site.

Sorry, I became distracted watching my own kids making stuff at the booths. You may have seen them. (Twin 9 year old girls with a 2 year old little sister.) And yes, Onlooker #1 and the pottery dude DO look very much alike. Strange! :P Thanks for stopping by.
